Beattie announces "soar" in Gold Coast police numbers
Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has announced the number of police officers on the Gold Coast have "soared" by more than a third, since the Labor Government was elected in 1998.
“These increases are a measure of how committed we are to improving police numbers," Mr Beattie said.
The Premier says he is continuing to put more police on the Palm Beach police beat.
“Palm Beach station also now provides a policing presence 24 hours a day, seven days a week and a counter service between 8am and 4pm," Mr Beattie said. “I agree with senior police who believe the Palm Beach community is better served by officers patrolling the area in cars during the night rather than sitting behind a desk."
