Research shows individual contracts cut entitlements - Hulls

Victorian Industrial Relations Minister Rob Hulls has released research showing small business employees are most at risk of losing their hard-earned entitlements under WorkChoices.

In a statement released on 10/10/06, Mr Hulls said the research by Sydney University found smaller workplaces are less likely to offer entitlements including annual leave loading, overtime pay, weekend penalty rates and paid maternity leave.

The research also found workplaces using individual agreements are less likely to offer entitlements than those using collective agreements, said Mr Hulls.

“This latest research confirms the Federal Government’s own survey of Australian Workplace Agreements which found they all excluded at least one protected Award condition," said Mr Hulls.

Conducted in May-June this year, the research is based on a survey of 793 small, medium and large businesses in Victoria.
